CASH IN BULK

WEBSITE DIRECTORY       ORDERING INFO       CHINESE COINS FOR SALE       BOOKS ON CHINESE CASH

For years I have been selling strings of 200 Cash coins excavated in Indonesia. Offered below are some premium strings of special interest . . . .

Most Chinese cash imported to the U.S. today are for the jewelry & crafts trade, and they come from Indonesia, where local Chinese communities have imported them for use since the Ming dynasty. Suppliers there collect them from villagers, construction people, or anyone else who finds them in a family treasure trove or buried in the ground. They are tied with plastic twine in strings of 200. Sometimes coins found at one spot will manage to stay together, as I have seen strings where every coin is toned & encrusted alike (common burial), or where there are no coins past Yung Cheng's reign. I do not know for sure whether anyone in Indonesia searches the coins numismatically, but as many are too dirty to completely read, I doubt it. Neither my jewelry importing friend nor I check the coins. My descriptions below are based on prying the strung coins apart enough to see reign titles on a random sampling. Some offerings below are single strings, but for others I have multiples.

Cleaning:   To see detail properly you will need to clean these coins. Some can get by with a brush and detergent, but stronger methods are available.   CLEANING TIPS.

Shipping:   For USA, up to 3 strings can go in a flat-rate priority mail envelope for 4.80 (+ insurance). Outside USA: Airmail 11 per two strings (+ registration).

STRINGS OF 200

STOCK#TITLEDESCRIPTIONPRICE$
25Basic StringRoughly 90% Qing, naturally dominated by the commoner rulers, Peking Mints, though usually with some Sung, Ming, a Kai Yuan or two, and a few Japanese and Vietnamese. There may be a few contemporary counterfeits or badly worn/encrusted pieces, but generally they keep these out as unwanted by the jewelry market.     SAMPLE STRING   ($70 each per 3 or more)     TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK. Order now without payment and I will advise when back in stock.80.00
25cNeeds cleaningThis group looks like it has spent more time buried than in circulation so the basic grade should be better, but it will take a little more effort in cleaning. SAMPLE STRING80.00
DISCOUNTFor 25 and 25c ONLY price 70 each if taking 3 or more strings of 25 and 25c. You may order other strings, but these do not count toward a discount on 25 and 25c.70.00
26aEverything ButNot many of the mid to late Qing that make up 90% of most strings, but a mixture of Ming & earlier, early larger-sized Qing (most Kang-Xi), some Vietnam, Japan Kanei Tsuho, etc.100.00
26bEverything ButNot many of the mid to late Qing that make up 90% of most strings, but a mixture of Ming, Song and earlier, japan, Vietnam and (unfortunately) too many of the late struck cash. Some nicer stuff & some junk.90.00
26jKanei TsuhoJapanese cash, main type of c. 1626-1862 period, most are Shin Kanei, mixed sizes, some with mint marks rev. The calligraphy varieties in this series are very subtle and there are many rarities in the series.110.00
26dgThe HoardNearly all Jia Qing & earlier Qing reigns, a few Dao Guang but apparently nothing later . Many are exceptionally high grade with identical hazy white/green patina. My theory: Brought from China in early DG (1820s?) when 1736-1820 issueswere still lightly circulated, then buried in a pot, limiting the oxidation products to a light smear. SAMPLE STRING including a few pieces lightly wire brushed, which is all that is needed to remove the patina. Good choice for those studying calligraphy varieties or seeking high-grade cash without acid cleaning or tumbling. Several strings available.100.00
26kxBig OnesSomeone has sorted out the larger size cash, so these run from Shun Zhi through the first few years of Qian Long, though mostly Kang Xi as the commonest reign of this period, plus some strays such as large Vietnam.100.00
26kyBig OnesJust as the kx above, but these have been cleaned in a tumbler. This saves you effort, but some will not like the brighter appearance.100.00
26nsOne SidedSomeone sorted the pieces without characters reverse, so these are mostly Song with some Ming, kai-yuan, Japan, and Vietnam.SOLD
26nvOne SidedAs 26nt but loose. Worst 200 selected from 400 pieces by grade. Some not bad, others will improve with cleaning, but many worn pieces.55.00
