CHINESE COINS for sale
These are unattributred, or inadequately attributed square-hole cash of China, Japan, Vietnam, or unknown origin. I will be glad to add your opinion to the description, and when I am fairly well convinced of what it is, I will sell it. For more unusual pieces in search of attributions or clarification see Valdimir Belyaev's excellent Charm.ru site.
Lung Chi Y.P. 24m, brass, poor calligraphy. Looks like it has some actual wear. From Dan Ching collection, acquired 1976, probably cheaply. Roger Doo says "Fantasy Money."
Hsiang Fu Y.P. Modern fantasies of Sung reign title with Ch'ing reverse. A) 21.5m brass, clean appearance, B) 24m brass, rough but showing no circulation, C-E) tin, showing varying calligrphy. Surfaces smooth to rough, visible sprue breaks, edges deeply striated suggesting rough brushing to remove flashing, F) tin, corroded. These were found among ordinary Ch'ing (etc.) in strings exported from Indonesia for jewelry use. There appeared to be no more than 0-2 such pieces per string of 200, which cuts against the idea that they are made as cheaper substitutes for real cash. Someone recently sent in this photo of a mounted piece, so my guess is they were made. c.2001as charms, but with what purported powers? Tin pieces for sale:
Poor (as specimen F) .50; Vg 1.00; Fine (Specimens C-E not available) 2.00
Yuan sycee cake The Chinese translates "Precious silver cake/coin of the gret Yuan dynasty" but the owner of this object, formerly from the Farouk collection, seeks information on the Phags-pa character at the top. What is the character? As with the Shun-ti cash coins, does it denote a date? A value? (Image is a scan of a photocopied object) 39.5m, 91gm
Tibetan Charms? I have no details on size or weight for these pieces, only the speculation that they are old charms, possibly Tibetan or Central Asian.
