| Wang Yong Sheng | (Xinjiang Historical Money) Appears to be a comprehensive history of Xinjiang coins and banknotes. The 983 plated items (all color) do not make as comprehensive a catalog as Xinjiang Numismatics but the depth of varieties pictured - such as 11 varieties of the 1949 Dollar - suggests a very detailed history. Chinese text; English Contents. 564p, hc, 7.5x10.5", 2007 | 125.00 |
| Zhao Hue Yuen (Henan Numis. Soc.) | Zhongguyo Chien Bi Da Tau Dien (Great Dictionary of China Numismatics) Vol 9: Bibliography Hundreds of entries by publication date, with a stroke order index by title. | Li Liang | (Official Charms of Sichuan Mint) Text (Chinese), plus catalog of 400+ charms cast at Bao Chuan mint since Kang Xi, including "poem coins" and pictorial charms. Although Sichuan was one of the more prolific charm mints, collectors in China now believe that most Qing mints, especially Sichuan, Fujien, and the Beijing boards are the source of many well-made charms previously thought to be private issues. However, not all of this author's inclusions are widely accepted as official issues. Six color plates. 154p+6cpl, 5.5x8", sc, 2004 | 15.00 |

Duan Hong Gang | The Comprehensive Catalog of Chinese Copper Coins Catalog of 3960+ struck coppers with #, description, specs, rarity rating, and a separate plates volume with excellent color photos of every type/variety. Uses Woodward's alphanumeric obv/rev classification system, with new discoveries, and enlargements of key details to distinguish varieties, but expanded to 1,2,5,20 Cash and upwards, contemporary forgeries & errors, 200+ tokiens, and 44 recent fakes. The catalog volume includes numismatic history by Province, including some new mint attributions (Chinese text) but most useful to Western collectors are the high-quality plates where enlarged insets of key details distinguish varieties more clearly than KM's descriptions. Subvariety fanatics will still want the 2003 Guanxi work which lists nearly twice as many varieties. Likely standard for many years. 447p+474pl, 2vhc, 7.5x10.5", 2005 | 165.00 |
| Guanxi Num. Soc. | Research to the Forms of Ancient Chinese Ten Cash Detailed catalog of struck (not Ancient) 10-Cash varieties, all illustrated in color plates. Each basic type is broken down in a chart, then varieties illustrated , with Chinese description below, keyed to design elements. The depth of analysis is impressive; taking Kiangsi Province as an example, Krause & Mishler list 37 varieties of 10 Cash, Woodward 140, Duan Hong Gang 260, and this work 425. More difficult for non-Chinese reader to use than the Duan Hong Gang work. Produced by a regional society in 2003, it will go out of print and become scarce. 392p, 8.5x11.5", hc, 2003 | 95.00 |
| Woodward, A.M. Tracey | Minted Ten Cash Coins of China The in-depth work, classifying this bountiful series in much finer detail than KM. Originally published as a series of articles 1926-36 in The China Journal, this is the only reprint. Plates are only fair, so counting dots and dragon scales takes patience and sharp eyesight. 151p+43pl, 6x9", sc, 1936R1971, OP BACK IN STOCK | 85.00 |

| Mihailovs, V., Krisadaolarn, R & Lubo-Lesnichenko, E. | Siamese Coins: From Funan To The Fifth Reign A rich sourcebook for the study of Thai numismatics in general, and a functional catalog for three series currently lacking comprehensive coverage: The Mon / Pyu symbolic coinage, the "ingot" coinages of Northern Thailand (tok, lat, flower, c'ieng, etc.) and pod-duang, or bullet coinage. For the first time excellent color photos and descriptive data are given for nearly all known types and varieties, even while questions of attribution remain. There are fascinating discoveries in the flat coinage of 1835-1910 as well as good, non-comprehensive coverage of south Thai jokoh and other tin tokens, Prakab, early gambling tokens, and Patani-Kelantan gold. The inclusion of old and new forgeries and fantasies, and summaries of Thai collector opinion and market wisdom are two features very useful to the Western collector. The catalog plates are well worth the price of the book, though its main contents are brief political and monetary histories of Siam and 130pp of early travellers' accounts, Royal monetary proclamations, and other documents, all translated to English. Bibliographic notes throughout point to deeper discussions of topics. 253p+148cpl, hc, 8x11"?, 2008 DUE Fall 2008 Please advise your intrest now for a pre-publication discount. | |
